Oh yes, this is just what the doctor ordered. Aside from the sports section there is a tremendous amount of information in there and I have purchase this book and given it away as gifts to younger black children. We have done so much more in life than play sports and music.

Excellent reference

There are many good books of reference on African American history published. However, this one ranks among the best. Well written, user-friendly layout, addressing a broad range of topics, this is recommended for a home or classroom library to teach that all members of a society contribute to its advancement and that our society must be inclusive of all members. Every child can be proud of his or her cultural and historical heritage in a country created by immigrants.

Dr. Andrew Jones, DVM, grew up on a farm in rural British Columbia, Canada. The humorous, pastoral stories of James Herriot, which paint the picture of a dedicated veterinarian’s fulfilling life, inspired Jones to make this world his own reality.

Dr. Jones earned a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the University of Saskatchewan and treated thousands of animals over the course of seventeen years. He is the former owner of Nelson Animal Hospital in Nelson, BC.

What a life saver!!!! This book shows you what you need to do to take care of your dog or cat. Read if before you need it!!!! Everything from dog food, vitamins, safety, alternative care such as homeopathy or herbs to fixing a bleeding paw and a great cough syrup of honey and warm water to soothe your dogs throat, CPR, fireworks noise, when to rush to the Vet and when to work at home first. A must read for all with pets, especially when vet bills are hundreds of dollars per visit.
Dr, Jones is fabulous and also has a You Tube channel with some of the ideas in this book expanded with the visual of how to do it. LOVE IT!!! A must have and be sure to read it now so you'll know what to do if something unexpected happens! Thank you for writing this book, Dr. Andrew Jones! You have helped many pet owners prolong the lives of their pets.

It is easy to read & understand & I love Andrew's knowledge ...

This book is fabulous. Just what I was looking for. It is easy to read & understand & I love Andrew's knowledge about science & natural remedies. I use only natural remedies for myself for things that come up in my life & am a vegan. Many years ago I had a horse farm. I boarded & trained saddle, show & race horses. The vet bills were too high & I was frustrated, so I started learning about natural remedies for the horses. They worked so well that when my vet called & asked why she wasn't called to treat the horses, I told her that I was using natural remedies & all problems with the horses were relieved with the remedies I used.
I would tell my boarders that when a problem with a horse arose that they had a choice. I would call a vet if they wanted to go that way, or I would go to a health food store & try a remedy. In every case the problem was solved quickly & just a fraction of the cost of vet bills.
I apply this same thing to my small pets. along with a fabulous diet, plenty of fresh air, exercise, filtered water, supplements, natural remedies, lots of quality time spent together & love.. I have very few problems come up & if they do, I treat it immediately with different modes of natural healing. My toy poodle has her own chiropractor & loves to see everyone at the chiropractors' office.
I would recommend this book to all pet owners. I believe wholeheartedly in what Andrew Jones is doing. I support him by sharing his posts on Facebook & applaud his courage in the face of a sick system. The AVA has become just as corrupt as the AMA, which does not surprise me at all. Many people are being blessed by his work & being true to his conscience. I know that God is leading him & he is listening to divine guidance as I did in using natural remedies.

Essential for reading French as a second language on kindle, despite flaws.

The reviews already posted here are largely accurate -- the translations supplied by this dictionary are short and not as complete as you'd expect from a real French-English dictionary. However larger dictionaries typically cost more than this anyway, so I don't think this should surprise anyone. Also, many forms of words that are in the dictionary will not be recognized by the dictionary in the auto-lookup default dictionary mode (including irregular conjugations and words preceded by l' (eg. l'ombre, as one reviewer pointed out).

There's a lot of room for improvement, and as soon as another French-English dictionary is available that works as a default dictionary, I'd recommend switching, unless the index for this dictionary is improved to address these problems.

However, I'd like to clarify a few things --

First, stemming does work in most cases, and you can look up conjugated forms of most verbs without trouble. I was afraid before I purchased it that I'd only be able to look up singular nouns, infinitive verbs, and masculine adjectives, which isn't the case. This means that most of the time, you'll be able to look up words instantly. This is a *huge* improvement from looking things up in a separate dictionary, which is great for the price. It is of course annoying when a word won't auto lookup, but then you could look it up manually in the dictionary.

My recommendation is this, at least until a better french-english default dictionary is available:

Buy this dictionary. It will *dramatically* improve your french reading experience on the Kindle. It has flaws, but they're not worth worrying about at the price it's at.

If you're an academic or an expert, you'll probably find it annoying sometimes, but still helpful. Buy a better dictionary. But I'd probably also recommend buying this one, if only for the convenience of the auto-lookup feature.

It works as a default dictionary

It was easy to make this dictionary the default dictionary on my Kindle 1 (go to "Settings"). But it is a fairly primitive dictionary. For instance, I looked up the words in this line, "l'on effarouche son orgueil; vous le". The dictionary returned entries for "son", orgueil", "vous" and "le", but not for the word I wanted to know, "effarouche." That is because the first person singular form of the word is not in the dictionary. The infinitive, "effaroucher", is in the dictionary, however, and one can find it by doing a global search on the computer for "effaroucher". This is time consuming.

I look forward to a better dictionary (I would pay a lot for a good one), but I will use this one in the mean time.

Works fine as default dictionary

The previous commenter is mistaken. This French-English dictionary is easily installed as the default dictionary on the Kindle 2, by following the simple directions in chapter 7 of the guide. It only takes a few seconds. (He may have tried in on the Kindle 1.) I've been waiting almost a year to find a F-E dictionary that would work as a default on the Kindle, and it's great that one is finally available. I'm giving this five stars to counteract the mistaken rating of the first reviewer; but it would in any case rate 4 stars. Although it's no "Robert," it works automatically, it recognizes various forms of verbs, and the definitions are clear. There are even use examples. So don't hesitate. This is worth much more than the 6 bucks, and as far as I can see it's the only working F-E dictionary for the Kindle.
