I will also include helpful practical business concepts I learned while I did an MBA at Columbia University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree at McGill University. Think of this book as a “greatest hits” accounting summary from my MBA, undergraduate business degree, work experience in consulting, equities, hedge funds, venture capital and starting my own companies. I have also included two bonus chapters on incredibly impoirtant business best practices and recent trends that many people often overlook in business.

As the title of this book suggests, this is a great introduction to banking. I have minimized “boring theoretical concepts” in this book in order to keep it as close to reality as possible. I hope you enjoy it!

Real-life Examples and Concepts Made Uniquely Clear and Personal

I can't get enough of Chris Haroun's perspective on being successful in business. I don't know of anyone else who better organizes their concepts and takes you directly to what you want to know.
It's so rare to find real-life examples and concepts made clear. I learned so much from the modeling and valuation sections, but am sure others will learn most from multiple sections suited more to them and their needs.
Chris uniquely makes business concepts so fun to learn that you want to actually go out and build a business just to put the ideas to work...even if you you hadn't even considered that business in the past!

best historical romance ever

I read this book in my early teens. I have to say it really started my addiction to romance novels and I am still an avid reader 20 years later. This book has everything. Roland Donovan, the hero, is absolutely delicious. Strong, sexy, caring, witty, gorgeous one of my favorite heroes of all time. Melanie the heroine is well written and I have to give her credit for even trying to resist Roland. The word tender in the title is perfect because there are so many moments so tender they actually make my chest hurt every time I re read this lovely novel. I love the hisotrical elements and the descriptions of New Orleans, the places and the culture of the period are spectacular. Definitely a must read for anyone who is serious about romance.

Adventure, intrigue, sensuous romance- what more can we ask for?

I read this book in the early 80s and was thrilled to find a new edition. Set in the romantic antebellum south, Melanie vows vengeance on Roland Donavan, whom she blames for her grandfather's death, but his noble character and tender passion throw her plans for revenge into confusion. Add her disappointed suitor and an adventurous quest for riches in Cuba into the mix, and you have the ingredients for a fabulous novel that can't possibly disappoint the most critical of romance fans. Blake's knowledge of history is evident (aside from a few minor mistakes with period fashions) and her love scenes will leave you panting. Highly recommend!

About the Author
Sondra is the author of six books, among them, Landmark Essays on Writing Process; Felt Sense: Writing with the Body; 'Stepping on My Brother's Head' and Other Secrets Your English Professor Never Told You, creative nonfiction essays written by well-known writing teachers across the county and co-edited with Charles Schuster; and On Austrian Soil: Teaching Those I Was Taught to Hate, a memoir that tells the story of what happened to Sondra when she found herself teaching Austrian teachers whose parents had been Nazis. This book was a finalist in the 2006 Independent Booksellers Award for memoir and led to the creation of the Holocaust Educators Network, which Sondra now directs at the Memorial Library in New York City. A professor of English at Lehman College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, Sondra has received numerous awards and honors including a Guggenheim fellowship and the Professor of the Year Award from the Carnegie Foundation. Useful introduction....

I am currently using this as my primary text in a writing class. The students respond well to the authors' consistently upbeat tone, and variety of suggestions for writing (titled 'ways in' at the end of each chapter). There could be some better integration between the instructional part and the rather slim anthology, but on the other hand, the anthology section of any textbook dates it rather quickly, and it's often useful to share with students other samples of fiction chosed by different taste (mine) rather than the authors'. There are plenty of tools for generating writing ideas, and the workshop chapter (chapter six) is one of the most useful I've seen in any writing textbook--instead of just giving warnings about being nice and supportive, they offer a four-round response session which my students have responded to very positively, and a checklist of 20 things to look for or consider in improving a piece.

My only criticism is not really of the book, but of the textbook's companion website. It's difficult to navigate for students, doesn't offer that much, and offers only locked pdfs--what if I want to print out a copy for myself (the professor) to jot a few notes on? Can't do it.

I'm in the middle of my Nonfiction Workshop class, but it's already abundantly clear that this book is essential to Nonfiction writing. The book breaks down terms and details about how to start and move through your nonfiction piece. It also includes essays from other writers as examples. This book is laid out great to take notes, and fits in purses and back pockets as easily as backpacks. I HIGHLY recommend this book for how it delivers ideas and pieces and how easily everything a nonfiction writer needs to know comes together at their fingertips.

This book goes through the craft of creative nonfiction with excellent short examples. It's a wonderful basic book for anyone thinking about writing a memoir or personal essays. Creative writing 101 with lots of excellent writing exercises to get things moving and on track. Bravo to the authors!!

About the Author
Rose Weitz received her doctoral degree from Yale University in 1978. Since then, she has carved an exceptional record as both a scholar and a teacher. She is the author of numerous scholarly articles, the book LIFE WITH AIDS (Rutgers, 1991), and the book RAPUNZEL'S DAUGHTERS: WHAT WOMEN'S HAIR TELLS US ABOUT WOMEN'S LIVES (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2004). She is also co-author of LABOR PAINS: MODERN MIDWIVES AND HOME BIRTH (Yale University Press, 1988) and co-editor of THE POLITICS OF WOMEN'S BODIES: APPEARANCE, SEXUALITY, AND BEHAVIOR (published by Oxford University Press and now in its fourth edition). Professor Weitz has won two major teaching awards at Arizona State University, as well as the Pacific Sociological Associations' Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award, and has been a finalist for other teaching awards numerous times.

Great book about medical sociology

I bought htis book for my medical sociology course. I really like it and I decided not to sell the book at the end of the semester. It's a medium sized book, not too heavy and big. I like the topics presented in this book and how they affect society's health as a whole. The book also make me think about things that I don't think are even a problem. For instance, the medicalization of childbirth or assisted reproduction.

Wow. I rented this book because it is required for the sociology class I'm taking this semester and I must say, there are many grammatical/spelling errors in this book! I wonder if she got this book peer reviewed? Was it read by an editor? Shocking! Otherwise, it's easy to understand, so that's a plus.
