Have I become a silent witness?

I have just two words to say about Dr. Peter Scott-Morgan's two recent books ("The Reality of our Global Future" and "The Reality of Global Crises"). These two words are 'READ THEM'! Were I to be granted the wish of using a third word to elaborate my view I would say 'READ THEM TWICE'! I have; here's why.
In 'The Reality of Global Crises', Peter Scott-Morgan tells us "why good beginnings are ending badly and leaving world leaders powerless". If you are already stifling a yawn at this point, with finger poised on mouse to click your escape, think again before depriving yourself of some serious awareness that could perhaps change your future. Stay here and linger awhile. Then answer the question posed in the heading to this review 'Have I become a silent witness'?
Peter Scott-Morgan takes the reader on a journey to explore the root causes of what can best be described as 'global apathy' (otherwise known as 'I couldn't be bothered syndrome'). But of course this does not apply to YOU and ME, or does it? If you, like me, have been pressing the 'snooze button' on your life in recent days/months/years/decades, then it's definitely time for us to wake up. These books by Peter Scott-Morgan are our own personal 'wake-up-call'.
Sometimes gently, sometimes alarmingly (but always intriguingly), Peter Scott-Morgan unfolds the mysteries of global phenomena that peer out at us daily from world events. He shows us how conventional thinking, when applied to unconventional and emerging situations, is futile at best and highly destructive at worst. His is a plea for new thinking. This is where we come in and a challenge from him awaits us.
Bombarded daily with worldly stimuli and suffocated by virtual debris, we have become prisoners of our own thought process. Problems presented to us on a global platter seem so enormous that we cannot help wondering at times, in the midst of our deepest reflections, what we might have for tea this evening; something quick and tasty I'll wager. Our minds, like our taste buds, reflect a mish-mash of the trivial and the magnificent, the dangerous and the sublime, the noble and the pathetic, all blended into a smoothie of banality that we knock back with casual swig. Raised on a diet of helplessness and hopelessness, is it any wonder that we risk becoming pale shadows of ourselves? Like virginal communicants that strayed into a den of sin and debauchery, we blush at our collective innocence, whilst simultaneously wishing to grow up fast and savor the forbidden fruits on offer. We have feasted on a diet of side effects and consequences, ignored the weighing scales that shows our mental obesity and we have left the root causes to stew for another day. Today's left-overs are fast becoming the menu for our children's dinner tomorrow.
Peter Scott-Morgan shows us how our failure to detect, examine and treat unanticipated outcomes, keeps us prisoner within our psyches. It is almost as if the world has become so complex and overwhelming, that we have reduced it to bite-sized portions. We have used our centuries old orienting skills to grope our way out of tricky global situations where we cannot see wood for trees. We have perched ourselves on our preferred branches of these virtual trees, twittering our way towards global and self oblivion. But have we just succeeded in making ourselves irrelevant and mute where and when it matters most? Yes, we now live in a closely interconnected and networked world, but in so doing with the desire of heightening our senses, we have amputated our consciences. Are we on the way to becoming enlightened and all embracing beings or silent witnesses as global events unfold before our eyes?
Peter Scott-Morgan cautions us that failure arises where there is no mechanism to succeed. Having carefully created layer upon layer of complex systemic global crises, have we also created a 'puff pastry' of a planet? A mille-feuille that promises to melt in the mouth but instead just leaves us with a bad taste? When the heat is turned up on global conflicts that stretch beyond our capacity to resolve, are we likely to expand our thinking process and rise to the occasion or simply get burnt to a proverbial crisp?
Luckily, "The Reality of our Global Future" teaches us to stand firm, take focus and adjust our internal life compass. Here is the power of knowing in action. Once we become fully aware, we are less likely to be fooled by those who would lead us blindly into the abattoirs of human ignorance and destruction. With a new found radar, we can begin to detect and avoid the camouflaged mines that have been buried on the pathways to our global future. We learn, with the skill and dexterity of a neurosurgeon, how to operate on our own psyche, to cut away the malaise of poison ivy that has entwined our senses and numbed our humanity. Only then can we begin the process of healing and returning to ourselves, renewed and enhanced by experience. We owe it to ourselves to have that experience. Read the books and judge for yourself.
Peter Scott-Morgan presents in two volumes a gift of genius and enlightenment. He knows, and shares, what is really going on. Often he is there while it is happening and can bear witness at first hand. But he is not a silent witness and gives voice to his hopes and fears so as to contribute to awareness and ignite curiosity. Here is obligatory reading for the bewildered, compulsive reading for the already enlightened and desperate reading for those who would lead us astray. I commend these books to you unreservedly. Between hindsight and foresight, there lies wisdom. Here you will find Peter Scott-Morgan with something worthwhile to say.
Are we ready to listen? Will his unwavering belief in People Power echo in all who read his words? And in that echo, will we fall in love again with the sound of our own voices or take the time to sit and listen, when perhaps another voice may speak?
I hope that his two wonderful books will echo doubly in the depths of our being and resonate within. If the truth were to be told, and if his belief in People Power were not to be in vain, then the trilogy in the series would be written by us; by You and Me.
Testator Silent? Silent Witness? I hope not. Our choice is between global renaissance and global chaos. The eternal echoes of the future will bear witness to the choices that we make from now on. Let us choose, and speak up wisely.

Good mega-trend discussion

Scott-Morgan offers his scenario for technology futures in a convincing and well-written way. Surprising to me was that he lists Simulation as one of the five major technology trends in the coming time. The other topics are not surprising, seem very much in line with the trends presented by other authors, but again are presented in a well-written way with good argumentation.
For those interested in Futures Research definitively a recommended read.

highly logical and absolutely credible

Perhaps the best book I've read in a couple of years. The author is clearly knowledgeable in more fields of human activity and thus able to paint a big picture that is highly logical and absolutely credible. He is also able to show where the other futurists nailed it, where they missed it and tell us exactly why. I really enjoyed reading.
